I have been keeping up with my movie reviews on Blogger -- but for several months I couldn't cross-post them here.  However, I'm going to try to update this journal over the next few weeks.  Wish me luck.
By the way I'm on Tumblr, Twitter, and Facebook as well as Blogger and Live Journal.  If you are interested in following me - send me a PM and I'll give you the .urls / info.  Please include WHO YOU ARE or username in your request.  Thanks.
I'm also cross-posting my fanfic on Archive of Our Own as well as Fan Fiction Net -- my pen name on both is the same as here:  Olivia Sutton. PM me if you have any trouble finding me.

Thanks,

AO3 update

Hi all,

I'm two-thirds of the way through posting my stories to Archive of Our Own.  All the individual stories from miscellaneous fandoms are up.  These include fandoms with one, two, three or four stories only. Next up - organising all the RnHd fics by series and posting them, including several chapter fics.

Remember, I'm keeping my fanfic net acct and future stories will be cross-posted.

Oh, and there's a couple stories I did not post to the AO3 account that are still on the Fan Fiction Net account; I just didn't think it was worth it.

Hi all,

Briefly, I have a new story posted over at FanFic Net. It's an Ironman fic, movie-verse and quite short. As readers of this Journal know -- I'm a DC fan, especially Batman, but I enjoyed the Ironman films (received them as a gift for my birthday). I liked the first better than the second, but the (AU) missing scene fic focuses is from the second film (which could have used a lot more Pepper and Tony and a few less explosions).

I also need to copy over my reviews from my movie blog. This one is a bit behind. I have both *Sherlock Holmes* films and both *Ironman* films reviewed. Hopefully, everything will get posted here no later than the weekend.

AND -- I've been watching "Whitechapel" on DVD. I have all three seasons in R2/PAL versions, and it was actually cheaper to order them from the UK (all three together cost less than season one does in the US). Brilliant, intelligent show. Highly recommended. A review may be forthcoming.

That's all for now,

Hi all,

Well, it's Tuesday, so I did what I do most Tuesday nights after work, and went out to dinner.  And, it was month-end today, with a drop-dead deadline, and what with one thing and another I didn't get out of work until 6pm, instead of 5pm.

But I drove over to my favorite restaurant by the mall anyway -- and discovered no nearby open parking. Parking at this mall has been a problem since they added on to the mall.  There's now a B&N, North Face, and a couple of restaurants in the new attached extension, plus two unattached restaurants and an unattached movie theater.  And they built a pedestrian mall between the mall itself and the detached restaurants.  Which is fine, and nice and all -- but they tore out all the parking.

I should have realised things were not going to be perfect when I couldn't find a parking spot in the little parking that remains in the L-shaped lot between the pedestrian mall and Penney's.  But no... I drove around the other side and parked in front of the theater.  And, since it was sprinkling, I even took my lightweight jacket with me.

Now, the walk from my car to the restaurant (attached to the mall) felt like a mile, but in a sense I enjoyed it.  And I got to the restaurant and it was 45 minutes for a table or sit at the bar -- so I sat at the bar.  I've done that before, and now that there's no smoking in restaurants - it's OK.

So I ordered my regular meal -- cocktail, spinach & artichoke dip, baked mac & cheese with chicken, and Irish coffee for dessert -- I know, it sounds heavy, but it's a yummy meal and half to two-thirds of the mac and cheese goes home for lunch.  Anyway, it was a nice meal, but when I got to the door -- it was POURING outside.  I put my jacket on, but it doesn't button or zip up (this is a light weight, non-waterproof field coat minus buttons that I keep in the car).  Well, there's nothing for it.  I'm going to have to walk.  And no point in running, because the chances are pretty good I'd slip and fall -- which would be worse than getting really wet.

So I'm walking and walking, in the pouring rain, feet getting soaked, shirt getting soaked, and I suddenly think, hum, "Singin' in the Rain".  And it's warm, and it's raining, so I start to sing, quietly, to myself -- "Singin' in the Rain".  I only know the first couple of lines, so I sing those, hum the rest, and make my way down the long walk across the pedestrian mall, down past the theater, in front of the theater and to the other parking lot where my car is.  And it helped.  I wouldn't say I was cheerful, but I definitely felt better about the fact that I looked like a total drowned rat, I had water pouring down my face, I could barely see through my steamy and wet glasses, and my feet were soaked through.

When I finally got to the car, dreading a long drive home in wet clothes, I saw a knit jacket top in the back seat.  I put my stuff in the back -- purse, leftovers, etc, and got in the front.  I also put the top on my front passenger seat.  I took off my wet jacket and threw it in the back.  Now, I was wearing a camisole, which provides more coverage than a sports-bra, and women around here jog in those things.  I looked around, and not seeing anyone, took the soaking wet T-shirt off, and put on the top, then buttoned that.  It was dry and warm (almost too warm), but at least it wasn't wet and dirty (I had, of course, dropped some of my dinner on my shirt).  Anyway, I didn't get caught -- and I still think no one would have seen anything anyway, I kept my camisole on and I was in my own car.

But, Singing in the rain?  Definitely helped the whole situation from feeling much worse.

Hi all,

Well, I'm back at my original job at my work. The beyond-stupid project from H.E.double hockey sticks is over! For the last two days I've practically bounced out of bed, and actually felt enthusiastic about going to work. I actually do like the position. Right now it is slow, though.
My boss tho is back to her micro-managing ways: she wants all questions to go through her, then keeps me waiting for hours for an answer to a simple question. And what am I supposed to do in the meantime? Sit around doing nothing? I'm not good at that -- I need to be busy.
gotta run at work now.

Finally mailed my passport renewal app today (yes under my real name obviously). Course I'm nervous as heck, because I filled in the "other name" part by accident (being single, my current name IS the only name I've used). And I'm worried about the whole package getting lost (I had to include my old passport, and losing that is like a Federal crime or something). Wish me luck! Per the post office my letter should get there by Monday.

Hi all,

As you can see -- I've finally updated and cross posted my recent movie reviews from my Movie Project blog.  Sorry to be out of touch.  Last Tuesday (March 1st) I came home and was promptly sick.  I threw-up so violently that I had blood pouring out of my nose.  Since I never get nosebleeds - that scared the living daylights out of me, and I ended-up in the E/R Tuesday night.  I came home with a diagnosis of  Flu Type A, and a perscription of TemaFlu (or whatever -- a very strong anti-viral med) after having had a breathing treatment (asthma & flu -- bad combo).  I spent the next two days home sick in bed -- sleeping.  I didn't even really feel like watching a movie or anything.  That Friday I did go in to work, but I was exhausted when I got home.  Over the weekend, I slept a lot, and today has been the first day I've felt even remotely better, even tho' I got home kinda' late.

Hi all,

First - yes the review of "The Bandwagon" needs to be fixed. It cut off halfway thru' the review, when I have access to Internet again, I will fix.

Second, I did watch "The Barkleys of Broadway" last night, but ended-up reviewing off-line, because, you guessed it - no Internet again.

So tonight, unless a miracle occurs, if I head out someplace with free Wi-Fi, I won't have time to watch "Batman Begins". I'm getting really, really peeved with my Internet provider.

UPDATE: Review of "The Bandwagon" is now fixed. And miracle of miracles, I actually have Internet at home!

Hi all,

Watched and posted review of "Back to the Future" part 2 posted at my Movie Project Blog (Please see Links). It was late when I finished posting so I figured I'd copy, paste, and tag the entry on LJs the next day. However, my satellite Internet went out due to the storm. So the cross-post will be a bit late. Feel free to check out my other blog tho.

PS: Work is going much better.

Hi all,

Sorry for the delay in posting and not watching as many movies over vacation as I wanted to.  I've been sick -- I have a very nasty cold.

Hi all,

Last weekend I lost Internet from Saturday night to sometime Tuesday due to the storms.  But at least we didn't lose power.

This weekend I finished up my Christmas shopping.  I started by shopping on-line on Friday, then spent all of Saturday morning and early afternoon shopping in town.  I'm basically done now, tho' I need to do my cards, with a letter, and create new business cards to enclose as well featuring all my social media and on-line .urls.

But it still felt really good to be done last night.

olivia_sutton: (Neal & Peter)
First - this has to be brief as I'm posting from work on my Pre, but I'll do what I can. I loved the season premiere of "White Collar". Poor Neal - I just wanted to give him a hug several times. I couldn't believe Peter's bosses thought that Neal killed Kate. I think it's much more likely that someone, like Fowler or HIS boss were trying to kill Neal & Kate. But it seems like business as usual for plot - which is good.
"Covert Afrs" also was pretty good (esp. For a USA pilot). It seems to be a lot like "Burn Notice", which I enjoy. Annie's a bit of a Mary Sue tho.
That's all for now.

My new job forces a 1 hour lunch, but I've found it's a great time to keep my social networks updated. I use Facebook, Linked In and LJs of course but I also need to only use my Palm Pre for this, which can be limiting.
More training today by phone and web conferencing. I still need to fix the Robin Hood review.

Hi all,

Bad news first. We had to put down our dog on Tuesday. She was 11, and suddenly got very sick, was vomiting for two days (and a night) and her kidneys shut down and she had liver failure. There just wasn't anything we could do for her. Poor old dog.
Yesterday, we were supposed to get a blizzard -- and it just didn't happen. We had a bit of snow, here and there, but overall - not the disaster they were predicting.
Woke up this morning though to a ton of snow! And it's been snowing heavily all day, so I guess the storm didn't so much not happen as was "fashionably" late. But that's why I haven't been posting - it's just been kinda' nuts at the moment.
I did pass my Microsoft test on Monday though. I am now a Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist: Database Developer (SQL Server 2008). Hopefully, this will help on the job front. I do expect to get certified in Admin too, but probably not 'til mid or even late January.

Oh -- current weather:

Temp: 15 F (-9 C)
Humidity: 84%
Wind Chill: -3 F (-19 C)
Wind Speed: W 23 (Gusts 28) MPH
Precip: Snow, Blowing snow, and breezy
Blizzard Warning in effect 'til 6am Friday (this is extended, it previously expired today)

Take care all,

Hi all,

Well, hopefully, the link to Henry Jenkin's latest blog entry posted.  Be sure to read the May 4, 2009, blog entry (at top of blog) -- it's an awesome pro-web 2.0 article.  Basically saying what everyone on Live Journal knows -- blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc, can be positive learning tools today -- and educational institutions shouldn't "fight the tide" as it were, but should actively pursue using these tools in a positive way.  Woo hoo!

Another positive note.  I now have satellite internet at my house!  It's fantastic to actually have speeds at home that are faster than at work.  And it sure beats dial-up!  Expect a lot of activity as I try to get caught up.

I'm also starting classes myself.  I'm just taking a few computer classes at the local community college to upgrade my skills (we call it "professional development").  I'm also seriously looking at MIT's Comparative Media/anthro/history program.  Yipes.  Scary as h.e. double-hockey sticks, but considering how poor my working situation is at the moment...  I honestly don't know which is worse (or better depending on how you look at it).

That's all for now,

Olivia
