Music Meme / Writing Prompts -- April 2009

This is how it works, as always.  Set iTunes, your Ipod, or other music device to "shuffle" or "random", then write down the first line of every song played for 10 - 20 songs.  I'm going to list 15 here.  Then, guess or try to figure out what the song title is and who the artist is who sings it.  Answers will be posted in one week.  Lines can be used as inspiration for fanfic.  If you write a fic using these prompts let me know and please provide a link to your fic.  Thanks and have fun!

1.  "Come gather 'round people wherever you roam, and admit the waters around you have grown."

Hint: Folk

2.  "Late at night, when it's dark and cold, I reach out for someone to hold."

Hint:  Rock

3.  "In the year of  our Lord 1806, we set sail from the port quay of Cork, we were sailing away with a cargo of bricks, for the grand city hall of New York."

Hint:  Irish Folk

4.  "I don't drink café, I take tea my dear; I like my toast done on one side, you can hear it in my accent when I talk..."

Hint:  Rock

5.  "I love you, and you love me.  I love you, so let's make a family tree."

Hint:  Alt. Rock

6.  "Dancing - in the mirror, yeah, you could see her from a mile, man."

Hint:  Soundtrack

7.  "In this town, there's a joke going 'round, and everyone said it's you."

Hint:  Comedy/Novelty

8.  "She came from Providence, the one in Rhode Island."

Hint:  Rock

9. "One little girl was called Jane Marie, another little girl was called Felicity, another little girl was Sally Joy, the other was me - and I'm a boy.  My name is Bill and I'm a head case."

Hint:  Rock

10.  "You may talk of your outings, your picnics and parties, your dinners, your dances, your hoolies and all, but wait until I tell you of the gas we had on the night that we danced at ..."

Hint:  Irish Folk

11.  "You and I in little toy shop, buy a bag of balloons with the money we've got, set them free at the break of dawn."

Hint:  Rock/Dance

12.  "You don't answer my call with even a nod or a wink, but you gaze at your own reflection."

Hint:  Rock

13.  "Casanova broke it just like china, he was smooth as southern bluebell cream."

Hint:  Soundtrack

14.  "It's been a long, long road, and I've got all my supplies - a can of Diet Dr. Pepper, and a 20-sided die.  I know that I'll be up all night, but my homework's done - so it's all right.  No exercise outside for me - just a quest for the Hydra's key.  Will I make it to the dragon's lair?"

Hint:  Filk

(OK, that's the entire first verse, but I couldn't resist - the lyrics are too funny).

15.  "When the winter wind, blows cold upon my window, and the mood I'm in is darker' than the deep blue sea."

Hint:  Modern Folk

Much to my surprise, none of my instrumental stuff actually came up this time.  Enjoy and have fun!
