Profile

Hi!  My on-line writer's pen name is "Olivia Sutton" and this is my Journal!  This is my updated profile for 2008.  Note:  Although I am now trying to update my Journal more frequently, it's still, primarily an account for me to post replies to other folks' journals, post comments on fics on communities here on Live Journal, and to post announcements of my own fics (which still get posted to self-archiving websites, e.g. www.fanfiction.net and www.psychfic.com).

I am a born and bred Midwesterner, currently in the state of Michigan, though I have lived all over the Midwestern United States (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin and Missouri).  I also lived in Canada for two years, one year in Winnipeg, Manitoba and one year in Thunder Bay, Ontario. I have an undergrad degree in history from Indiana University (Bloomington, Indiana), where I also studied journalism and anthropology.  I have a graduate degree (master of science) in anthropology with a graduate certificate in museum studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (located, obviously, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin). I recently finished  a second master's degree in information science management  (IT) from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan.  After that I attended a program for getting my IT certifications, coming away with seven:  A+, Network+, MCP, MCDST, ITIL Foundations, Security 5 Foundations, and HDI Support Center Analyst.  So, of course, What did I get in terms of a job?  A teaching post!  That's right, just like everyone else in my family (well, the majority of them) - Mom, brother, sister-in-law, an uncle, a cousin or two -- I'm a teacher.  At the moment, I'm an adjunct at a tech school (tho' they do have 4-year degree programs).  I probably shouldn't say which school, tho'.

I have been in fandom since I was 18 and attended my first media convention, Babel Con in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  My oldest fandom is probably "Doctor Who", which led to other British TV shows, especially "Blake's 7" and "The Sandbaggers".  But I also watched "All Creatures Great and Small", "BlackAdder", the first two series of "Red Dwarf" etc.  Other than those I tend to like small fandoms.  The list below of what I've written in should give you a sample.  Two other shows I simply loved and read all the fanfic I could find were:  "Shadow Chasers" and "The Real Ghostbusters". Very soon after Babel Con, I attended my first Mediawest Con, in Lansing, Michigan.  I attended every Mediawest, from 1988 to very recently (I think 1999 or 2000 was probably the last one I went to).  At cons, and in paper fanzines I used my real name.  But now I use  the pen-name of  Olivia Sutton, for this journal and for posting on-line fic, at www.fanfiction.net and www.Psychfic.com.  If I ever post fic to a different website, such as Wraithbait (Stargate:  Atlantis) I'll use Olivia Sutton there as well.

Besides MediaWestCon, I was very active in media fandom in the late 1980's and early 1990s, especially British Television fandom, including Doctor Who and  Blake's 7.  I attended the last of the legendary Scorpio conventions, held in Chicago.  I also attended, the following conventions:

Brits in Space - St. Louis, Missouri

Soma Con - Chicago, Illinois

Sandbagger One - New Jersey  (I forget the name of the darn city, but it's just outside of Philadelphia)

Toronto Trek - several of them, in guess where? Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Several Babel Cons in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Grand Con, Grand Rapids, Michigan

Confusion, Detroit, Michigan  (a couple of them)

Mad Media, Madison, Wisconsin

Gen-con (gaming) Milwaukee, Wisconsin

I began writing for paper fanzines, with my first story being "Glass Fantasies" in Curses, Foiled Again, edited by Susan M. Garrett

I'm actually not sure when I started pubbing on-line (I can never remember dates) but it was when I was watching The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne in syndication and then on The Sci-Fi Cable Channel, so about the year 1999 or  2000.  I joined a discussion list for the series, and then a fiction discussion list for the series, and started by posting stories to the fic list.  From there I edited and re-wrote my fics, and posted them to the ArchiveWebsite for the list.  About a year after that, I opened a Fanfic Net account.  Since then, I've published my fiction, on-line at Fan Fiction Net and my Psych stories both there and at www.psychfic.com.

My next post will list my on-line stories.
