olivia_sutton: (Neal & Peter)
First - this has to be brief as I'm posting from work on my Pre, but I'll do what I can. I loved the season premiere of "White Collar". Poor Neal - I just wanted to give him a hug several times. I couldn't believe Peter's bosses thought that Neal killed Kate. I think it's much more likely that someone, like Fowler or HIS boss were trying to kill Neal & Kate. But it seems like business as usual for plot - which is good.
"Covert Afrs" also was pretty good (esp. For a USA pilot). It seems to be a lot like "Burn Notice", which I enjoy. Annie's a bit of a Mary Sue tho.
That's all for now.

Hi all,

This is why I've been out of touch (and why the news item posted earlier just ruined a great mood).  Friday we celebrated my Mom's birthday.  All and all I had a great day!  It was sunny and warm (40s rather than the 20s and teens it had been all through Jan.).  I checked my pay deposit at my credit union online and discovered I was finally paid all the back-pay I was owed (the last 3 out of 4 checks were messed-up, I was getting my salary but not my supplemental pay -- and since I only teach one class right now, I'm living by my supplemental pay).  So with a nicely full checkbook for once I went to the candle shop in Rockford and got Mom's birthday present, then drove south to the card shop and got her a card, then went to Godiva in the mall and got chocolates for her and me, then went to OfficeMax to get some school supplies -- of the five things I went there for, they didn't have two of them, but I did get a 8-gig flash drive for $17.99.  Normally, driving all over town like that would drive me nuts, but driving around, in the sun, under a gorgeous blue sky?  I really enjoyed it!  It was so nice to have warm, sunny weather for a change.  Then we had a birthday party for Mom, saw my brother and the twins and Mom and Dad, had birthday cake, then we went out to a local Italian restaurant for dinner.  The dinner was great, too!  It really was the perfect day.  And, I got home early enough to install and play with a new $10.00 computer game (Age of Mythology), I also finally bought Quicken (I've used it before, and the confused state of my checkbook means I really need to start tracking my expenses again).  Watched Burn Notice (excellent! - I particularly loved the twists and turns in the plot.) and Psych also great fun  -- I loved the car chase/gunfight at the end.

Watched the last ep of Doctor Who series 4, Sat.
Brief DW comments under the cut:

DW Finale Brief Comments )

Saturday I had to work -- and got very little extra stuff done, because we had our open house, which I forgot about, and database lab ran late, and I had to write-up a misbehaving student, which took a lot of time.  My chair backed me up tho' - the student had also caused him problems.

Today I re-balanced my checkbook (all the efts from Friday) and just ordered a ton of stuff for me (hey Amazon and Deep Discount had great prices - and I haven't really ordered anything on-line for myself since, oh, probably October).  But I got the two Doctor Who classic releases from last November:  Four to Doomsday (Davison) and The War Machines (Hartnell), I also ordered two DW CDs of music - the new series CD and the new series Series 4 CD (I loved the music in Series 4), and Sarah Jane Adventures (It was $30.89 - which is still a little pricy, considering it's only half an hour, but it was still on sale - and it means the only new DW-related DVDs I need are Torchwood series 1 & 2.
Then because Deep Discount had them really cheap I ordered Doctor Who: The Inifinite Quest (Some sort of animated short thing, should be interesting - and it was only $5.00), Thunderbirds Are Go (The original Gerry Anderson TB movie - I have it on VHS and at $6.00 it was worth getting), From Amazon - Thunderbird 6 the second Gerry Anderson movie - I also had it on VHS it was $6.00 and the two will round out my Thunderbirds collection finally, and Jonathon Frankes Thunderbirds live-action movie (for $10).  I saw it when it came out and it was fun.  The one thing I didn't like about the movie was Alan was too young, a bit of a whiner, and does the Wesley-Crusher-thing and saves everybody.  I would have preferred something a little closer to the series, where all five Tracy boys are seasoned professionals.  OTOH, it was an "origin sotry" movie - and parts of it were great - like exactly duplicating some of the stock footage model shots of the original series.
AND I paid an extra payment on my Visa credit card!
And I have some money left.  Woo-hoo!
