Con Schedule
Mar. 8th, 2008 04:06 pmHi all --
"Well, I'm back," as Sam Gamgee would say! I first got involved in SF and Media fandom in 1987/88, and as a regular at conventions, especially MediaWest Con, throughout the late 80s and the 90's. (see my fannish profile for a fairly complete list of cons I attended). But then, things happened, moving, grad school, new jobs, loss of job, moving again, grad school AGAIN, training/cert prep, etc. In short, my fannish life other than on-line took a BIG backseat to everything else that I do.
But, grad school the second time around (my IT degree) really worked out for me. And, now I've secured a teaching post, tho' as readers of this blog know, I'm only an adjunct and my schedule's a bit dicey. I was esp. pissed off to see my schedule go from 1 class only to three to back to one, in a matter of weeks.
But with that, at least *I* know I can teach and i enjoy it. I even got four nominations for "teacher of the quarter", which is amazing considering I only had 26 students *total* in two classes. (And these were from my difficult class, the one with the problem students -- the class the business chair took *away* from me!)
Anyway -- today I just signed up for a PenguiCon membership. Just think, not only a con to go to (officially for the first time in about 5-7 years), but I might get some professional development credit out of it, and start some professional networking. Can you say cool? I also want to pick-up a Mediawest membership, tho' I might wait 'til my next check to actually order the membership. And I'm hoping to go to VidCon in July (in Tampa, oh joy).
So here's the schedule. I do register under my real/legal name, but if you're on my friends list and plan on going to any of these events, drop me an e-mail!
PenguiCon -- Open Source Software (Linux) and SF Convention
Troy, Michigan
The Hilton (check their website for info: penguiCon.org)
MediaWest Con -- Fan fiction, Fanzine, (Straight and slash) and Media Convention
Memorial Day Weekend, Lansing Michigan
Mediawest 28 May 23-26, 2008
Holiday Inn South
Info: Mediawestcon.org
Vid Con -- Fanfic readers and writers, filk, vidders
Tampa FL (July)
I only have last year's info, but will post more as I get it, even as a link.
