Hi all,

I had to work last night, so I recorded it and watched it this morning.  One little hick-up -- the recording cut off at the end, um, where will be under the cut.  Fortunately, I also recorded the post-game show so I caught the last few lines.  But AWESOME, this episode was totally awesome.

Spoilers below:

It was great to see the team back together and with a new HQ (and not as fancy as the Hub - tho' I hope they get a new hub soon.  After all, the Rift has got to be there still.)  This is going to be a bit random, because I was so over-whelmed, so please excuse that.
Alice - Well, she certainly didn't inherit her father's intelligence!  I couldn't believe she kept calling his phone.  Didn't it EVER occur to her that (a) it could be bugged, (b) it was destroyed?  And they going out, in public, and calling the police when Jack's been place on The List?  What an idiot.  I mean, she tried by using someone else's phone, but still.
I felt bad that she was taken, along with her son -- talk about a police state (ditto for Ianto's family in the previous episode, btw).
Jack and Ianto's exchange about Jack feeling the explosion - and Jack didn't even mention coming back together which was probably even more painful.  I do like that Jack mentioned that "the Doctor" said he was a fixed point in Time and Space.  Not sure if Ianto knows who the Doctor is.  Possibly, from the last three episodes of Series 4 of Doctor Who.  I wanted to see a bit more Jack/Ianto action, tho', even though there's a time and place.  I loved it in ep 1, when Ianto asked Jack if he died, and when Jack says "yes" he just goes over and hugs him.
The temp - she apparently IS just a PA.  Strange.  I expected more.  But she's awesome -- the shorthand was brilliant!  I love super-bright secretaries (or admin asst if you insist).
Frobisher, so, Permanent Under-secretary to the Home Office - well, that explains a lot.  The politics are getting interesting.  Actually, it's something I have seen before on British TV, the warning that the British Civil Service has entirely too much power and that un-elected grey men are actually running things while elected governments come and go. (Watch "A Very British Coup" or even "The Sandbaggers").  I don't quite get exactly how the British Civil Service works, I'm pretty sure it's different than ours.
Jack and giving up the kids (and wasn't that a bit of a shock) - Here's what I think happened:  The 456 arrived, or had secret negotiations with the British Government.  Somehow, this was kept secret from the world, even from UNIT.  Torchwood was given the order to find the kids, get them to the drop site, and turn 'em over.  It was probably a case of "give up the kids or we destroy all of you" whether that was the country or the world, who knows.  Jack may have objected, or he may have simply "followed orders", but at the end of the day -- he gave up the kids.  It was his job and his orders.  It reminds me of "Small Worlds"  -- it's Jack who says to the Faeries, "Take her" (tho' the girl wanted to go).  Gwen was appalled then, and she and the rest will be appalled now -- but it the end, hopefully, Jack will explain, there will be some yelling, and then they will accept it.   The others killed btw were probably also involved in the original conspiracy of silence.
This time - I think Jack will try to stop them from giving up the children to the aliens.  I think he might even use the explaination of "Look what happened last time".  I also have a horrible feeling the aliens aren't exactly doing nice things to the kids -- they're probably eating them or something equally horrific.
Oh, completely seperate, but am I the only one who keeps expecting the Doctor to show up and just fix everything?

Can't wait for tonight's -- and again, I have to work!  Plus, normally I record Burn Notice, and I was having trouble getting the DVR to cancel that and just record Torchwood.  I think I finally got it, but I'm really nervous that I'm somehow going to get screwed.  And, I have to remember when I get home to check to see if it recorded, and if it did, record the late ep of BN at midnight.  Arrrgh.  (I suppose, if I have to, I can grab BN online if I miss it).
Take care all,
--Olivia
