My Movie Project Blog

Hi all,
Well, it looks like I'm not going to make my self-imposed deadline for The Movie Project. It's the 22nd and I'm only on "M". However, I'm going to continue the reviews anyway until I've watched every film in my collection. Part of the issue with not getting done on time was actually adding to my collection -- despite my intentions I did buy additional films, which means when I'm done, I will be well over 166 films - closer to 170-175, I think. Part of it was various good and bad things -- from house disasters to losing my job and getting a new one to a vacation to Chicago for Chicago TARDIS, which kept me away from my "gal cave" and watching and reviewing movies.
However, I also found that some movies I just wasn't anxious to watch again (or to watch period - it seems there's a reason I don't watch the extra feature movies such as earlier versions of the same film on a DVD). However, other films really stand up and I could watch over and over again - such as Lord of the Rings, All That Jazz, and all the Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers RKO musicals. And that's just the films I've reviewed so far.
I do have today, tomorrow and Monday off from work, plus next Friday and the Monday after that, so even with some holiday stuff to do, I'm hoping to watch some films over the next five to ten days. And, I'm in the "M"s -- some of my favorites come up next: Mary Poppins, Master and Commander, Moulin Rouge. So it will happen, just a bit slower than I originally planned. Well, a lot can happen in a year.
And I will say this: every era has it's good films, and every decade has it's type of film it's known for -- whether it's musicals in the 1930s (and 1950s), Film Noir in the 1940s, comedy in the 1970s, or sweeping action/adventure fantasy films in the 2000s (based on novels), there's always something. So it's extremely unfair to say, "Oh, in the old days it was better," -- it may have been different but not necessarily better and not necessarily worse. One of the tags I'd like to add to my films is the film's decade (the date is listed in my cataloging block, but not not as link/tag that pops up on the side of my blog and can be clicked to open up a list (not to mention giving a count). After all, I considered sorting the list by date, but I thought I'd get tired out watching the same time of film - alphabetical seemed more random.

PS: I'm going to cross-post my reviews from my movie blog next. LJs seems to be having problems with this lately, my formating gets really weird.
