On Writing Psych

Ah, the joys of a new fandom.  The rush of reading everything on fanficnet.  The joys of Googling!
And the utter frustration of figuring out Live Journal!
Yep, I still haven't gotten the hang of Live Journal-- everything on here seems backwards to me.  But I'm getting ahead of myself.

I like real medical shows, as well as their dramatic cousins.  (I've been watching the dramas since Emergency!, as well as the obvious hospital shows of St. Elsewhere and E/R.  Currently, I simply LOVE House, M.D.)  I was watching one such real medical show, Untold Stories of the E/R, which ended-up being about Munchausen by Proxy, when I got an idea for a fanfic.  So I started writing--very quickly.  Even with a couple of long distractions (dinner, and watching Stargate:  Atlantis  on DVD) I ended-up with a short story with a beginning, a middle, and an end-- and something completely different than my usual fanfic style.  I normally write long, detailed, researched stories, that get sent back and forth to at least one beta prior to being proof read a final time before posting.

This was something different entirely-- an quickly written, emotion-driven story, rather than a character-driven or plot-driven (or idea-driven) one, that I was actually happy enough with to post.  Immediately.
Well-- I posted it four times-- on fanfic net, on Psychfic, and twice on live-journal, and that's where the problems started.  Now, the post didn't even go thru' on Psychfic, but I just opened my acct there last night, so I plan on going back today and fixing it.  The post to fanfic net went normally (and I've already gone back and re-posted the story to fix the errors I noticed AFTER posting.  Typical!)

The good news was I checked my e-mail around nine this morning and it was full of comments.  I had three good reviews from fanfic net, which was awesome-- I've never gotten THAT many good reviews so quickly (I mean, I posted the story around 11pm last night-- and I had three reviews by 9am this morning, WOW.  By contrast, I still haven't any reviews for the two old RGB stories that I finally posted a week or two ago.  Which doesn't bother me, I use fanficnet like it was intended, as an on-line archive).

The bad news was that I apparently totally screwed-up posting the story to live-journal.  OK-- I accept that I made a mistake and somehow broke the rules.  But you'd think that at least one person who e-mailed me to point that out would have explained either the proper procedure for posting stories-- or pointed me to the correct page explaining the rules, and how to post!  Telling me the "code" doesn't help, since I don't know anything about HTML programming (I know UNIX/Linux, networking, database, and basic security, but HTML/web design is just not my thing!)

Anyway, that's my rant.   From now on, I'll stick with fanfic net.  And probably Psychfic, because I should be able to figure out, with some admin help, how to post there.  But I don't think I'll post a fic here again.  Sorry.
Expect to see announcements in this space when I post to fanficnet, when I remember to post the announcment.  But no fics.
