Torchwood Children of Earth Day 1 -- SPOILERS

Hi all,

OMG!!!  Just watched "Children of Earth" and wow, oh wow.  Most of this is going to have to go under an LJs cut 'cause I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it.  BBCA started with an hour-long special called "Inside the Hub" -- a catch-up special, which was cool - lots of new interviews, and fairly helpful (if repeatitive) information.  I got Series 1 and 2 for my birthday in May
, but with one thing and another (including last weekend's Classic Star Trek marathon) I've only watched all of series 1 and up to episode 8 of series 2 on DVD (even tho' ep 9 is one of my favorites - I haven't gotten to it yet).  I had seen series 2 once, when BBCA ran it last summer, and that was it.  (Series 1 I'd seen every ep at least twice and some several times).  After part 1 of "Children of Earth"  BBCA ran a nice 15-minute like post-game analysis of the ep -- way cool.

OK - now to what we saw, spoilers below. (click link to read)

OMG!!!  OK, the ep. started off a little slow, obviously build-up, and a lot of stuff I'd seen in the various promos I'd seen on BBCA and even Sci-Fi channel all month.  But then things just snowballed -- seeing JACK with a family?!  I was like -- Jack?  With family?  And a daughter no less, and grandson.  Like wow.  And oddly enough, I could see the woman's point - because Jack is dangerous.  Not intentionally, but like the Doctor, where ever he is - there's trouble.  And, unfortunately, not everyone can handle that (It's why so many police officers and fire fighters have marriages that fail and also why the wives, or even husbands of police and fire fighters are almost a special club.)  Ianto's family, also a big surprise -- also, I *honestly* thought it seemed a bit not just out of character but out of continuity.  I could have sworn in "Cyberwoman" we're told Ianto doesn't have any family.
Ianto and Jack -- yea!!!  Now an official couple!  Not that that hasn't been coming since "Countryside" (I think, whatever S1 ep had the "stop watch" comment.) and definitely in Series 2.  In S2 -- tho' Jack's still a bit of a flirt, at the end of the day, he clearly goes home to Ianto.  Just like Gwen, despite her flirting (with Jack and with PC Andy) at the end of the day goes home with Rhys.
Speaking of Rhys -- there wasn't enough of him in this ep.  Can't wait to see Gwen tell him he's going to be a father.  Assuming, of course, she's still pregnant after the big boom.  (Gwen being pregnant was a bit of a surprise, but not a total shock.  I wonder if the actress if pregnant?)
OK -- let's get to the last few minutes.  OMG, omg, omg -- JAAAAAAAAAACK!  OK, we know he can't die, but ground zero of an explosion that take's out the HUB?  That's gotta' sting.  They so can't kill Jack.  It just can't be!  He's the rock of  Torchwood.  And, so help me, if they harm one hair on Ianto's head -- I'll jump through the TV and strangle RTD with my bare hands.  OK, so not, 'cause it's like impossible, but I love Ianto -- he's been my favorite character since the first ep. (tho' I also love Gwen and Jack and Rhys).
Now, I kinda' figured that with the oh so "Close Encounter's of the 3rd Kind" opening that the aliens were coming back (esp. the "We are coming..." that we heard constantly.)  But adding "Back" to the statement makes me think it's the KIDS who are coming back.  But as what, I don't know.  (Yeah, I saw "Knowing".  eep.)
And what's this conspiracy all about?  And just who is the dodgy temp?

That's all for day one.
